What is "Mixed by riddimBank" on the find-a-riddim page?

Mixed by riddimbank™

A Mixed by riddimBank™ multitrack riddim is pre-mixed. Meaning, after you drop all files into your recording software, it can be used just as is: lined up and balanced. Typically a Mixed by riddimBank™ file has reverbs and delays removed except for intentional dubs. Some audio files may appear to be quieter than you would expect, and some may even have dropouts. This is intentional and is because they were mixed this way in the original. Reach out if you have any questions.

What does "Click Track?" field mean?

Click Track?

When a song is recorded, it is common for a drummer to play to a metronome so there are fewer variations in tempo. Recording to a metronome means there is a "Click Track."

When "Click Track?" is selected that means there are two possibilities:

- The drummer performed to a metronome as described above.

- The music was programmed so there are no variations in tempo

When "Click Track?" is NOT selected that means there is just  possibility:

- The drummer did not perform with a metronome and therefore the tempo may naturally drift. This may be important for customers to know before making a purchase, so we added this information to the find-a-riddim™ page.

License Agreement Questions

Can you simplify this? How can I use the riddims?

To Simplfy...

After you make a purchase, you can release as many as two songs: One with words and one without.

For License Agreement details, click HERE

Can I use a riddim more than one time?

How many uses?

The License for each multitrack riddim is for one song. If you want to record multiple artists on one piece of music (like in a various-artists-on-one-riddim type of album), you must purchase multiple licenses. These can be purchased with a quantity discount.

What's the difference between Licensing, Leasing, and Buying a riddim?

License, Lease, Buy?

Great question. At riddimBank, we decided early on to make it as easy as possible for singers and producers to make professional music. We decided to allow customers to "License" rather than "Lease" or "Buy" riddims.

"Licensing" means that you can use the music one time and you pay one time.

Pro: One transaction and simple terms

Con: One use may disappoint customers

Con: Others may use the same music on their projects

"Leasing" means you can use a piece of music multiple times but you have to also pay multiple times after the lease (typically one year) expires.

Pro: Lower initial price.

Pro: Unlimited number of uses (like in a various-artists-on-one-riddim type of album)

Con: A Lease must be renewed every year (more paperwork and challenges for both parties)

Con: If a Lease is not renewed, it could end up with legal challenges or in court.

"Buying" means that only you can use the music, and you can use it as often as you wish.

Pro: Unlimited uses

Pro: No recurring fees

Pro: Nobody else will use the same music on their project

Con: More expensive

Can I Buy a riddim so nobody else can use it?

Using riddims Questions

What are all of the steps to release a song?

Steps to Release a Song

Here are the basics:

- License a riddim at riddimBank (or rent a studio, hire musicians and an engineer)

- Record Vocals

- Clean everything up (riddimBank does this for each riddim)

- Mix the song (riddimBank mixed the music. All you need to do is process the vocals, add some effects, and export the song.

- Mix and optional Version or Dub

- Master the song(s). This is the step that finalizes the music so it sounds polished. It's the last step before releasing it.

- Post the music to the online stores. There are services available to help you with this. Please reach out and we can help you.

RiddimBank can help you with each of these steps. We can give you tips on how to do them yourself or how to find someone you can hire to do them for you.

What is a Multitrack?

Multitrack

When a song is recorded in a recording studio, each instrument is recorded separately. For example, there can be a dozen microphones put on a drum set to record it: (inside the kick, outside of the kick, snare top, snare bottom, hi hat, tom 1, tom 2, tom 3, floor tom, cymbals left, cymbals right, and a room mic), Then when you record guitars, sometimes they are recorded with near microphones and far microphones. Pianos can use multiple microphones to be captured professionally.

Each of these are individual "Tracks" and collectively, they are referred to as "Multitracks."

You will receive multitracks with every riddim. More importantly, they have already been cleaned up and processed so they are ready to go. You can drag and drop these files into any audio software and they sound like they are in a professional studio.

How do I use Multitracks?

Using Multitracks

To use these multitrack riddims, you must have some audio software like Garageband, Reaper, Studio One, Logic, Ableton Live, or ProTools. These files are compatible with all audio software.

To use them, create a project in your software using the same tempo as the source files you downloaded. Then simply drag and drop the audio files into the workspace. We recommend you sort them by name because we number them consistently. For example, 01. Kick, 02. Snare Top 03. Snare Bottom, 04. Hi Hat. When you sort by name then drag and drop them, you have them in a logical order.

Once your files are added to your project, it should sound pretty close to done because we have cleaned and processed every track before we exported it. This means that you can turn up or down any of the individual instruments to get a great balance.

Record some vocals.

Add some effects such as reverb or delay on your effects sends and use those to polish your song. Using the sends rather than the inserts is easier on your computer.

Can I use just the Drums?

Using part of a riddim

Yes. You may use all or some of the files provided to you. Please note that you can only use them as many as two times: one time only with vocals and one additional time as a dub or instrumental.

Why do the files sound too slow (or too fast) in my audio software?

Playback Speed

Modern Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) have a feature that lets users change the tempo of the project which changes the speed of the audio files. Different DAWs have different names, but the things to look for are "Timestretch" "Tempo Follows" "Audio File has tempo" or other similar names.

When the tempos of the wav files and the tempo of the project are different, the playback speed is either slow or fast.

If you have wav files with a tempo of 100, for example, and start a project at 120, then the files will sound fast. If you open those same files in a project set to 80, the DAW will slow the 100 down to 80 to match the project and it will sound slow.

To avoid any problems, be sure the tempo listed on your wave files is the tempo you start your song project.
